School Wide Positive Behaviour Framework (SWPBS)

At Keysborough Primary School, we are proud to implement the School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) framework — an evidence-based, tiered approach that promotes a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students.

SWPBS helps build a positive school culture by clearly teaching and consistently reinforcing expected behaviours. It provides a shared language and predictable routines, helping students feel secure, connected, and ready to learn.

Our approach supports all learners through targeted interventions tailored to individual needs — from learning to sit safely to managing social interactions. We work closely with students, families, and support services to ensure every child is ready to engage in learning.

Our core values — Be Respectful, Be Safe, and Be a Learner — guide all we do. They shape how we learn, interact, and grow as a community.

Through SWPBS and Keysborough Primary School, we are committed to:

  • Teaching clear behaviour expectations
  • Celebrating positive behaviour and success
  • Responding consistently and fairly when issues arise
  • Creating a calm, predictable environment where every student can thrive

We value our partnership with families and the wider community as we embed these practices across our school.

How Do We Teach Social Behaviours?

Tell – Introduce the expected behaviours and discuss why it is important
Show – Demonstrate and model
Practice – Role play expected behaviours in the relevant contexts
Monitor – Pre correct, supervise and provide positive feedback

Where Do We Teach Our Expected Behaviours?

-In every classroom throughout the school.

-Everywhere in the school.

-It is embedded in other school activities.

Our students have taken part in a values think tank, thoughtfully identifying words and behaviours that reflect what it means to Be Respectful, Be Safe, and Be a Learner — guiding principles we strive to live by every day at school. Here are the word clouds they’ve created to capture these ideas and bring our values to life.

Positive Behaviour Matrix:

We’ll be using a behaviour matrix to clearly show students what positive behaviour looks like in all areas of the school – like the classroom, playground, toilets, and more.
Teachers will use this matrix to teach and remind students of the behaviours we expect, helping ensure a consistent and supportive environment for everyone.

Token Reward System:

To encourage these positive behaviours, students will be recognised with tokens.
This reward system helps to:

• Motivate students to follow our school expectations.
• Reinforce positive behaviour in line with our school values: being respectful, being safe, and being a learner.
• Focus on what students are doing well.
• Keep behaviour expectations consistent across all staff.
